Impact on society
Attorneys secure the rule of law. We do this not only through our client assignments, but also by actively participating in social debate and by sharing our expertise with our stakeholders and pro bono work.
Promoting the rule of law
We participate in the legislative process, for example, by drafting judicial policy statements in the Finnish Bar Association’s expert groups. In this way, we put our extensive experience of business life to use when new laws are being drafted.
Raising future generations
We cooperate actively with universities to help raise future generations of attorneys. Our experts frequently give lectures at universities, and we regularly host moots and other student events at our office. We also work closely with universities that train assistants.
Each year, we employ around 100 students through our trainee programmes.
We contribute to the development of future-proof law education. Our firm is a significant donor to the sustainability law professorship at the University of Helsinki.
Social debate
Cooperation between the public and private sectors is vital in sustainability work. We promote fruitful dialogue by bringing together different parties in our seminars and other events.
We also generate public debate in our statements to the media and by participating in public events.
Our memberships in a wide variety of sustainability associations and organisations are important channels for us to make a difference. For example, we are part of the FiBS sustainable business network, Finland’s sustainable investment forum Finsif and the Climate Leadership Coalition (CLC), a leading non-profit climate business network. Our international sustainability networks include the Net Zero Lawyers Alliance (NZLA), which promotes the transition to net zero, and the Business and Human Rights Lawyers Association (BHRLA), which brings a human rights perspective to commercial legal practice.
Pro bono
As part of our commitment to the UN Global Compact, our pro bono work promotes two of the initiative’s Ten Principles: supporting and respecting the protection of internationally proclaimed human rights and encouraging the development and diffusion of environmentally friendly technologies.
We have partnered with four NGOs for which we offer legal advice and support.
- Finnish Refugee Advice Centre
- Uusimaa District of the Mannerheim League for Child Welfare
- Red Cross Youth Shelters
- Climate Leadership Coalition
