Universum Professionals: C&S Once Again the Most Desirable Law Firm Employer

According to the 2015 edition of the annual Universum Professionals survey, Castrén & Snellman has held its position as Finland’s most desirable law firm employer for the fourth year in a row. This year, public sector employers had a particularly strong showing at the top of the list. As the highest-placed law firm, we are now in 13th place (7th place in 2014).

The most popular employers among this year’s respondents were the courts, the Ministry of Justice, the Foreign Ministry, KONE and OP Financial Group. In the top ten, Nordea and the Prosecution Service, among others, improved their standing. Two law firms made it into the top twenty.

One thing worth noting in the results is the rise in importance of the meaningfulness of work. This may help explain the strong showing of public sector employers. A work-life balance remains the most important career goal among the respondents, but its importance has dropped a little since last year. The ideal employer among legal professionals is international, respected and versatile.

The survey was carried out in March–August 2015, and a total of 324 legal professional participated. Their average age was 37, and they had an average work experience of ten years. Women accounted for 66% of the respondents.

In addition to the legal services field, the Universum Professionals 2015 survey looks for the most desirable employers and working life preferences of employees in the commercial, technical and IT fields. A total of nearly 10,300 university-educated professionals participated in the survey.

Castrén & Snellman has also done well in Universum’s student survey. We have been Finnish law students’ ideal law firm employer for seven years running.
