Terms and conditions for the scholarship programme

These terms and conditions apply to the Scholarship for the Future scholarship programme and the related scholarship application process. In addition to these terms and conditions, the information included in the application form and the scholarship programme’s privacy notice applies to the Scholarship for the Future scholarship programme and the application process.

1. Purpose of the programme and the scholarships awarded

The Scholarship for the Future scholarship programme supports students in the form of a monetary scholarship.

Castrén & Snellman’s extensive journey is filled with memorable moments, and the firm has played a part in many historic events in Finland. Castrén & Snellman has also had the privilege to help many promising young individuals become top experts and social influencers.

To keep this tradition alive, Castrén & Snellman awards two scholarships in 2024. These scholarships are awarded to students who have shown particular social initiative and made a difference in something close to their heart – the people behind the sustainable success stories of the future. To driven and motivated young people who have demonstrated their will to change the world. The scholarships are awarded to support the studies of the chosen recipients.

Scholarships under the programme are awarded to two students in higher education (law or business majors enrolled in Finnish universities as well as BBA and MBA students enrolled in Finnish universities of applied sciences).

Castrén & Snellman awards two scholarships worth 1,000 euros each under the scholarship programme.

2. Application guidelines and eligibility for students in higher education

Scholarships for students in higher education are awarded based on applications received. The scholarship application process under the scholarship programme is open to students who are 18 or older and major in law or business in Finland. To be eligible for the scholarship, students must be enrolled and registered as attending in a Finnish university and major in law or business. The scholarship application process is also open to BBA and MBA students who are 18 or older and enrolled and registered as attending in a Finnish university of applied sciences.

Students can apply for the scholarship using an online form. It is also possible to refer an eligible student in higher education for the scholarship by filling in the referral form. The referred person will receive a notification of the referral via email as well as a request to fill in the remaining application information and review the privacy notice concerning the scholarship application.

Applications under the scholarship programme must be submitted using an online application form available at https://www.castren.fi/the-firm/scholarshipforthefuture by 2 May 2024 at 23:59 at the latest. Applications or application attachments sent by mail or email will not be acknowledged. An application can only be submitted once, and it is not possible to amend the application once it has been submitted.

By entering the scholarship programme, the applicant accepts and agrees to comply with the terms and conditions of the scholarship programme and confirms that they are eligible. By entering the scholarship programme, the applicant agrees and acknowledges that in case they are awarded with a scholarship, their name will be published on Castrén & Snellman’s website and social media channels. The scholarship recipient is liable to investigate the taxation of the scholarship and to declare and pay any taxes on the scholarship in accordance with applicable laws. The scholarships will be paid in June 2024.

Castrén & Snellman wishes that the students receiving scholarships are willing to cooperate with Castrén & Snellman in a manner separately agreed on. In any case, Castrén & Snellman may use the applicant’s name and, subject to the applicant’s separate consent, any material attached to the application in its communications and marketing, among other things.

Contents of the application

In the application form, we ask the applicant to tell us about themselves and their studies and to give reasons why they should be the one to receive a scholarship. We are also looking for examples on how social activism is reflected in the applicant’s everyday life. If the applicant has entered the application process through referral, they do not have to provide the reasons for receiving a scholarship themselves, but it is nonetheless possible to do so. No information or attachments included in the application will be returned. A carefully drafted application increases the chances of receiving a scholarship.

Application period

The scholarship application period will begin on 2 April 2024 and end on 2 May 2024.

Processing of applications and criteria for receiving a scholarship

The applications will be processed and the recipients chosen in May 2024. We will let all applicants know the results via email in May. The scholarship recipients will be announced in June 2024 on Castrén & Snellman’s website.

The recipients of the scholarships awarded through the application process will be chosen by a scholarship panel appointed by Castrén & Snellman. The panel members include Castrén & Snellman employees and external experts appointed by Castrén & Snellman. The panel processes the applications anonymously. The recipients will be chosen based on the overall impressions arising from the applications, and no detailed reasoning for the decisions will be provided. The panel’s decision cannot be appealed.

Castrén & Snellman reserves the right to freely choose the recipients of the scholarships under the programme and to not grant scholarships under the programme at its discretion if, for example, no suitable candidates apply for scholarships.

3. Other provisions

Castrén & Snellman reserves the right to remove a person from the scholarship programme if the person makes statements that are contrary to the values of Castrén & Snellman or could damage Castrén & Snellman. Castrén & Snellman further reserves the right to remove a person from the scholarship programme if the person acts in a way that is contrary to the law, morals or good practice. In this case, Castrén & Snellman is entitled to oblige the scholarship recipient to return the value of the scholarship they received to Castrén & Snellman.

The total liability of Castrén & Snellman for all damages towards a participant of the scholarship programme for any requirements under these terms and conditions shall be limited to the value of the awarded scholarship (EUR 1,000).

The terms and conditions of the scholarship programme shall be governed by Finnish law without regard to its principles and rules on conflict of laws. Disputes concerning these terms and conditions will primarily be sought to be resolved in negotiations between the parties. If no settlement is reached, the matter shall be settled by a competent court.

Castrén & Snellman reserves the right to change these terms and conditions. Any changes will be announced on the website of Castrén & Snellman, and participants of the scholarship programme are advised to carefully review the latest applicable terms and conditions available on the website.

4. Additional information on the scholarship programme

Additional information on the scholarship programme can be requested by emailing stipenditulevaisuudelle@castren.fi. The email should include ‘Stipendiohjelma’ in the subject field. We do not accept applications by email. All applications for the scholarship programme must be submitted using the online form, and all referrals must be submitted using the referral form.
