Mikko Heinonen
Counsel, Member of the Finnish Bar, LL.M., M.Sc. (Econ.)
About me
I advise clients in various types of debt financing transactions, particularly in syndicated loans, acquisition finance, real estate finance, asset finance, project finance, export finance, financial restructurings and debt capital markets, and I have been responsible for negotiating and drafting documentation in numerous such arrangements. I am currently pursuing doctoral studies in law and occasionally lecture on financial and security law topics at the University of Helsinki. I have also published several articles in the field of banking and finance law. In addition, I have been consulted as an expert by Finnish Parliament in connection with the enactment of new legislation relating to, e.g. the book-entry securities system and clearing operations and covered bonds. I have acted as secretary to the working group preparing a Government proposal on legislation concerning bondholder representatives, and was actively involved in the working group initiated by the Confederation of Finnish Industries for the development of the Finnish bond market. Chambers Europe, Chambers Global and IFLR1000 rank me among Finland's leading legal experts in the field of banking and finance law.
I earned my law degree from the University of Helsinki. In addition, I hold an M.Sc. (Econ.) degree from Helsinki School of Economics and Business Administration (now part of Aalto University) and an LL.M. degree from Columbia Law School, where I was recognised as a Harlan Fiske Stone Scholar for outstanding academic achievement.
