Senior Counsel, Member of the Finnish Bar
I have been involved in high-profile Finnish competition and merger control cases for decades, and always with one goal foremost: to negotiate and settle the case successfully with the competition authority, be it the Finnish authority or the EU Commission. My approach to antitrust work is to deal with the case realistically and to also keep in mind the competition policy objectives the authority may have. The same approach suits for merger negotiations as well as when confronting allegations of abusive conduct or illegal cooperation between competitors.
A rapid settlement, solidly based on a realistic forecast of the outcome of the potential court proceedings, is always in the client's interest. Settlement is not, unfortunately, always possible and over the years I have accumulated extensive experience of working effectively in a team during complex court proceedings and extensive investigations as well.
I believe that a combination of my long experience of intricate negotiations and of litigation capitalises as results. Identifying the ultimate frontier calls for both experience and mature judgment; to go far enough, but not too far.
