Ilona Karppinen specialises in dispute resolution and general corporate law. In dispute resolution, her practice covers all aspects of domestic and international commercial litigation and arbitration. She has particular expertise in corporate disputes, private enforcement of competition law and product liability through her work in some of Finland’s largest damages cases. In addition to her role as counsel to parties, Ilona has frequently acted as a secretary of arbitral tribunals.
In the field of corporate law, Ilona advises clients in legal matters related to corporate structuring, corporate governance and directors' liability.
Ilona is actively involved in the world's largest lawyers' professional organisation, the International Bar Association. She has been an officer in the IBA Litigation Committee since 2009, currently as Vice Chair (2013-2014). She has published a number of articles in international professional publications regarding investment disputes, cost-efficiency in arbitration and the effects of the financial crisis on Finnish corporate governance.
