“This is a long-distance run” says Partner Jouko Huhtala, who is currently the longest-serving member of the firm. He started work in Castrén & Snellman in 1974 and enjoys his work very much. Happy and motivated people are the foundation of our firm’s success.
A Supportive Atmosphere
Based on a personnel survey carried out in 2010, work satisfaction in our firm is excellent and has even improved over the past few years. Our staff gave an overall score of 4.25/5 for how satisfied they were with Castrén & Snellman as an employer, up from 4.21/5 in the previous personnel survey carried out in 2008.
Our working atmosphere is widely praised in the survey. For example, two comments in the survey were ‘I’m happy to know that I made the right choice in coming here’ and ‘The Castrén Spirit is not just empty talk’.
An Equal Workplace
It is important to us that every employee is treated equally. An equal, fair, supportive and open working environment benefits the employees and the employer, and we believe promoting this kind of environment is the duty of the entire work community, every day. We have crystallised this idea in the definition of one of our shared values: ‘We ensure that we all can consider our working community as the best possible workplace in all situations of life.’
Castrén & Snellman has an equality working group tasked with monitoring and promoting equality in the firm’s everyday work.
Shared Values
During the winter of 2008/2009 all of our employees had the opportunity to participate in determining our firm’s values. Nearly everyone took part in the energetic discussions, which resulted in our firm’s values being affirmed as confidence, respect, the spark, and productive balance.
Values
Balanced Distribution of Work
Distributing work evenly between employees is a significant part of well-being at work. Supervisors monitor the workloads of their employees on a daily basis, and the distribution of workloads is also regularly monitored on the office level.
New Premises
Functional work spaces are a basic prerequisite of well-being at work. The recent move of our Helsinki office made it possible for us to design and build our new premises in a way that best supports our work. Our St Petersburg office was also recently renovated.
We pay particular attention to the ergonomics of work stations, and our employees can consult our occupational physiotherapist regarding office ergonomics.
The Joy of Exercise
Many of our employees exercise actively. Our floorball team has won the law firm league championship three times. We also have our own football team and a many enthusiastic golfers. Many of our employees traditionally participate in various running events, such as the Helsinki City Run, and many work out at fitness clubs. We support our employees’ exercise hobbies with exercise vouchers.
Occupational Health Care
We provide our employees with extensive occupational health care. In addition to health care services, occupational health care specialists visit the firm to talk about, for example, the effect of a healthy diet on well-being at work. A physiotherapist also regularly visits our Helsinki office, and our employees get discounted prices for physiotherapy sessions.
