Counsel Ville Ahtola
A Coach Motivated by Challenge
Ville Ahtola is known at C&S as an expert insolvency lawyer and a very active floorball player. If you ask Ville, the best embodiment of the firm’s spirit is its floorball team, which practices every Monday evening.
‘Sports are a good balance for work, but our floorball team is about more than just exercise. It is a great way to get to know colleagues, particularly ones you don’t work with on a daily basis.
In addition to insolvency matters, Ville focuses on dispute resolution and corporate law. Ville joined our firm in 2006 as an associate. Ville’s career has followed a typical path: soon after passing the bar exam he was promoted to senior associate, and after gaining more experience, to counsel in 2012.
‘I mainly handle bankruptcy and restructuring proceedings. The tasks involved depend on the stage of the proceedings. It’s most hectic at the start of a bankruptcy. That’s when my phone tends to ring off the hook.’
Ville says that it’s difficult to describe a typical work day, as each day is different, and few days go according to plan. The work is wide-ranging and challenging, which helps maintain a spark of enthusiasm.
‘I like challenging assignments and varying days. The best part of my work is when I complete an assignment and the client is happy.’
In addition to interesting tasks, Ville appreciates how the firm’s positive working environment and supportive colleagues make work more enjoyable.
‘The Castrén Spirit shows as respect for every colleague. I also want to do my part in maintaining our good atmosphere. I value the people I work with not just as colleagues, but as people, too.’
